Hello everyone, welcome to WeblogHits.com. The purpose of this blog is to find, test and document various ways to increase traffic to blogs. I have started this blog completely from scratch and will not be using any other blogs or web sites that I own to launch it. If all goes well, hopefully you can use some of these same techniques and drive more traffic to your blog as well.
I was actually pleased that this domain name was available - to me it seems like a pretty good one. It sounded good enough for me, so I registered it with GoDaddy.com for only $8.30 (using coupon code digg from digg.com). So, I activate the hosting for this domain, install WordPress and I’m in business!
Now in order to track my traffic, I’m going to need something to measure my progress. I’m a big fan of SiteMeter - a service which offers a nifty little stat counter for your blog or web site. It’s free and gives you a lot of good information - where people are coming from, who is on your site at any given moment, etc. You can see the stats of this blog by clicking on the SiteMeter icon on the sidebar, or by clicking here.
So, I’m ready to go! I changed the permalink settings for this blog to make them more search engine friendly. By default they aren’t very friendly…looking something like this:
http://www.webloghits.com/index.php?p=1
I changed the settings so they will look something like this:
http://webloghits.com/index.php/2006/05/11/webloghitscom-launched/
This should give me better results in Google, MSN and other search engines.
Now, I’m ready to start creating content and figure out the secrets to getting traffic to this blog. I know a little bit about it, but believe me I’m not an expert. Hopefully, I’ll become more of an expert and once and for all crack the code, so to speak. More to follow..but let’s give those search engines more food - cuz they are hungry. I’ll continue on with a seperate post.
